What are you reading or listening to today?
I am currently reading “A Night on the Moor & Other Tales of Dread” by R. Murray Gilchrist. Robert Murray Gilchrist was a brilliant gothic decadent author who was sorely overlooked in his day, and sadly continues to be. I’m also reading “Dictionaries: A Very Short Introduction” by Lynda Mugglestone and other books on corpus linguistics in preparation for a forthcoming concordance. As for music, I’ve been reliving my youth with Marilyn Manson and Burzum lately.
What’s the best part of your work day?
The best part of my work day is when I have the opportunity to work with a struggling student and demystify the research process for them. Watching these students grow, become more confident, and take pride in their work is such a joy. They become life-long library users, at our institution and others. It truly is the best part of my day when I am able to help our students blossom as scholars.
What are you most excited about right now (library-related or otherwise)?
I’m am extremely excited to host our first ever ALA International Games Day @ Your Library on November 21st. I am a passionate gamer, and I’ve been taking every opportunity I can to promote our event. I hope that it is well attended!
How has your membership in CLS helped you?:
I find the listserv to be the most beneficial aspect of CLS. Being at a small community college library, I don’t have many opportunities to attend conferences or to participate in professional development that requires a registration fee. The listserv is a wonderful resource.
